Altered composition books is not a new idea. But I do feel that everyone has a differt take on how to complete the process. Whether you have altered a dozen or never tried it, I hope to share with you some of my tips on how to alter a composition notebook
|Altered Composition Book|
Composition Notebook (I found some at my local dollar store)
1/8" - 1/4" Double Sided Tape
8 1/2" x 11" Red cardstock - 1 sheet
8 1/2" x 11" Yellow cardstock - 2 sheets
12" x 12" Ruler pattern paper - 1 sheet
12" x 12" Stripe pattern paper (TreeHouse Memories) 1 sheet
26" Yellow Ribbon
Gold Label Holder
1 x-large Gold brad (I found them at an office supply store)
Number stamps or rub-ons
Spray the front cover with spray adhesive.
TIP: Place a piece of cardboard between the front cover and first page to protect it from the spray.
Step 2: Place the piece of strip pattern paper about 1/3 of the way down. Place the piece of red cardstock next to the strip paper to cover the remaining 1/3 of the book.
TIP: It's easier to trim the paper once it's adhered to the book. Lay the front cover face down and use a craft knife to trim away the excess.
Step 3: Sand edges of the pattern paper. Repeat the gluing process with the back of the composition book.
TIP: Reverse the order of the paper on the back cover: adhere the strip paper on the upper 1/3 of the book and adhere the red cardstock on the bottom 2/3 of the book.
Step 4: Cut a 2" stripe from the ruler paper and sand it well. Adhere it across the seam that the papers made on the front and back cover. Do this with either a glue stick or the double sided tape.
Step 5: Place double sided tape along the spine. Place the Yellow tape on top of the douuble sided tape
TIP: The ribbon helps to cover the paper seam. Be sure to add double tape so that it is the same width as your ribbon- if the ribbon is adhered well, it's least likly to peal up.
Step 6: Stamp or use rub-ons the years it wil be used: 05-06 on red cardstock.
TIP: Don't want to have a date? Add the recipients name or catchy phrase they like.
Step 7: Adhere stamped cardstock behind the gold label holder with double sided tape. Adhere label holder with E6000 glue and let drive.
Step 8: Fold a 3" piece of yellow ribbon in half and place a pen inside the folded ribbon. With the fold on the right side, add a gold brad as shown to form pen holder. Adhere pen holder to front cober with E6000 glue.
Step 9: Spray inside covers and add yellow cardstock to cover the writing on the inside of your book.
Step 10: Place double sided tape on the edge of each piece of cardstock on the inside covers and adhere ribbon on top of the tape to cover your seams.
