A Designer Conversation – By Kim Demmon
Change is all around us. I often wonder how much I will grow and change in my scrapbooking world in the next year. I sat down with a few of our designers (in the cyber living room) and wanted to know more about how they scrap and what has changed. I love learning from other scrappers.
What kind of adhesive did you use when you first started scrapping?
Jo’Ell – CM tape runner and Glue Sticks
Holly – CM tape runner
Charity – Glue Sticks
Misty – Tacky Tape and Hermifix
Lori B – Glue Sticks and Photo corners
Peggy – Hermifix
What kind do you use now?
Jo’Ell – Click N’ Stick Mounting squares by Therm O Web, Glue Dots and Mini glue dots.
Holly – Duck brand adhesives, Glue dots, and a liquid glue either named Mono or Tombow.
Charity– Glue sticks and Pop dots
Misty – ThermoWeb adhesive and Glue dots. An occasional glue stick.
Lori B – Glue sticks and photo squares
Peggy – Tombo MonoAdhesive
What was your favorite embellishment when you first started scrapping?
Jo’Ell – Diecuts, punched shapes and stickers.
Holly – Stickers.
Charity - Ribbon
Misty – Buttons Buttons and more buttons!
Lori B – Buttons
Peggy – Stickers
and what is it now?
Jo’Ell – Bottle caps, laminate chips, metal label holders, file tabs, tags, pockets, fibers, ribbons, rub ons, acrylic accents, etc….
Holly – So many to choose from. Ribbon has become a favorite and ink for edging.
Charity– Ribbon is still a favorite, but I also love brads.
Misty – Ribbons and chipboard letters.
Lori B – Acrylic Paint
Peggy - Ribbon
What products did you think you would NEVER use on a layout?
Jo’Ell - Paint, drywall mesh, or laminate counter top chips
Holly – Did think she would EVER need a hammer.
Charity – Diecuts
Misty – Eyelets
Lori B - Stickers
Peggy – I don’t remember thinking I wouldn’t use anything………I’m a try it once kind of gal.
What tools did you use when you first started?
Jo’Ell - CM circle and Oval cutters, scissors, trimmer. Decorative scissors.
Holly – Used a 8 ½ x 11 trimmer, Strap and hinge albums, CM circle cutter. Micron pens.
Charity– Scissors only
Misty – Sizzix Machine and a Xyron
Lori B – Decorative Scissors
Peggy – Perfect Layers tool
And do you still use them?
Jo’Ell – I still use them on occasion, but not as much.
Holly – Coluzzle for circles now. 12 inch trimmer and Zig Writers
Charity– 12 inch trimmer.
Misty – No
Lori B – NO!
Peggy – Still loves it and uses it.
How has your paper selection changed?
Jo’Ell – I no longer buy “themed” paper. I have learned to convey my theme without needing busy paper that matches the theme.
Holly – Used to only use white cardstock for backgrounds and now has a large selection of colored cardstock. Subtle Patterned papers.
Charity – Changed from using a lot of baby blue for my newborn son. Embracing bright colors and bolder patterns.
Misty – Not much has changed. I still pick up floral and papers with lots of color.
Lori B - Not much has changed. I still like an all over small pattern.
Peggy – I used to use a lot of “cutesy” themed paper. Now I use whatever strikes my mood.
