Working with clay was a lot of fun. I used several different ways to make my items. I also experimented with different ways to embellish and color my clay items. Some of which I will be sharing in this tutorial. I have also used these clay items on some of my scrapbook pages, which you can view after each project.
The brand of clay I used is called Makin’s Clay. It is a product of Provo Craft and mine was purchased at Michael’s. It is a no bake clay that dries in 24 hours or less depending on the thickness you make the items.
Project #1: Rose
Supplies:
White Makin’s Clay Floral Makin’s Clay push molds Water brush Dark Peony & Dark green Color Box chalk cats eye ink pads Paper towel
Directions:
1. Get a small piece of clay and press it into the flower mold. Make it flat and level with the top of the mold. Trim off the extra clay around the mold. Do the same thing with the leaves. Push flowers and leaves out of the mold and set aside to dry at least 24 hours. For the stem, pinch off a small piece of clay and roll it on the table with the palm of your hand to desired thickness. Pinch off at desired length, flatten a little and set aside 24 hours to dry.
2. After clay has dried, take the clay rose and color it with the peony chalk pad. Let it sit a couple minutes for color to soak in a little and then with paper towel, blot it dry. Use the water brush and get a little chalk ink on the end to shade the rose to give it depth. Use the same technique for the leaves and stem using the Dk green chalk inks. Let pieces sit til inks are totally dry.
3. Use flower to make a page element and make your layout. I do not recommend letting clay items touch your photos. I glued my rose to a Making Memories oversized vellum tag. Chalked the edges, added a silver 3/16 eyelet in the upper left corner and a ball chain to it. Then I hung the tag from my topper.
