Yes, you can make fibers without using any other program besides Photoshop!

Supplies:
-computer
-Adobe Photoshop *This tutorial is for version 7, and may or may not work for other versions.*
Instructions:
-Open a new image. Choose Letter (8.5 x11, 300 dpi) with either a white or transparent background. I used white, simply because it makes it easier to 'see' the fiber while working with it.

- Create a new layer by going to Layer>New>New Layer.
-Next, choose the Brush Tool on the Tool Box.

-Choose your foreground and background colors. I used two different shade of purple for mine. If you want subtle, pastel fiber- choose two light shades. If you want a more vibrant fiber- choose a light and a dark shade of the same color.
- On the Brush Menu at the top of the screen, choose a Fuzzy Brush. I'm using one of the default brushes (to reset them, open the drop menu on the menu bar, and click on the little arrow in the upper right hand corner, then click on 'reset brushes') called 'Fuzzball.' To see the names of the brushes, hold your mouse over the brush for a few seconds.

- Now, click on the little clipboard in the upper right hand corner of the Brush Menu Bar.
- Click on Color Dynamics to bring up that menu.
- Change the foreground/background jitter to 100%. Optional: Change the Control setting. This is not needed- you'll get a similar effect even if you don't use it.

- Now- draw your fiber. I drew a bow, but you can draw whatever you like. You'll notice that the fiber color changes from your foreground and background color (neat effect, isn't it?).

- Now it's time to make this look 'real'. Go to Layer>Layer Styles>Blending Options.
- Click on Bevel and Emboss to add some depth to the fiber. I used all the default settings- you can play around with the settings to try different looks.
- Next, click on Drop Shadow. Again- I used all the default settings. You can play around with the settings to try different looks.

- And that's it- you have made fiber without using any extra plug ins. Enjoy!
