Here’s my attempt at a monochromatic layout or a layout in different tones of one color. My model, my daughter, is again the subject of this layout. This photo was taken a couple of years ago at a family picnic behind her Grandparents house. I’m one who doesn’t like to journal so found this quote on the Internet and thought it worked with my daughter’s smiling photo. Most of this layout is done by hand. Only the text is computer generated in Photo Shop 7. The photo was sepia toned at Archievers, as I had a free copy coupon. All the papers are sage green by Anna Griffin. Ribbons purchased at Michaels. Silver accents are from Cottage Keepsakes. Fonts used are: “Be” is International Palms, “Happy” Kravitz, “H” in Happiness is Waterlily, rest of text in Happiness and “Aristotle” are Tiranti Solid Let, “2002” is Shannon and “Joy” is SA Dots. The “jewels” were added to the layout last.

The layout above was easily monochromatically colorized in PSP7 from the previous green layout but you need not start with a monochromatic layout. You can easily do this with any layout possessing any number of colors. To colorize or change it into a monochromatic layout, I simply went to colors/colorize and set my hue at 200 and my saturation at 24 to get the purple as shown above. If I wanted a gray color I would’ve set the hue to 150 and saturation to 25 and for a blue – hue 150, saturation 100. To colorize your photos or layouts, just play with these controls and see what you can come up with. Photoshop users can easily colorize their layouts by going to image/adjustments/hue/saturation and by sliding the color button to either side until they get their desired color. Hope you give this technique a try as it is only a few clicks away and very simple to do in most of your paint programs….
