½ sheet vellum
Strips of red, white and black cardstock
3 ¼ X 6 “ piece of black cardstock
Chalk
2-4 red eyelets and setter

Choose Wordart from your Drawing Toolbar (see Fonts Tutorial http://pagesoftheheart.net/tutorials/pcfonts/pcfonts.php) and Choose the solid black letters the slant upwards. Set your Font to Mistral and the size to 96 points. Type a capital O.
This O can now be manipulated a little. Use the little squares around it to pull it a little rounder and fatter.

Now pull it over to your word(s) and place it where you want it.
Highlight the O and choose the Draw button on your Drawing toolbar. Choose “order” and off that menu choose “Set Behind Text”. The O should be behind your Word now.
Print this out onto vellum. Try not to smear it!
The background for this topper is a technique called Bargello. In this simple example of Bargello we take strips of cardstock in coordinating colors (for this sample, red white and black) ranging in size from ¼” to 1”. Cut them at variable lengths and glue them side by side with edges overlapping a bit. There is no set pattern but no two strips of the same color were placed side by side.
Next tear a strip of white cardstock big enough to frame the word Canada. Chalk the torn edges red. This is to help your word stand out on the bargello. Center it on the bargello and glue in place.
Trim the vellum around the words with about ¼” above and below the O, and ½” on either end. Center it over the torn chalked paper, and set eyelets to keep it in place. In this example 2 were used, but you could place one in each corner.
