I really enjoy trying new techniques as well as creating variations of techniques. I was recently inspired by someone else who was using a variation on the Bargello technique (see notes below) and did my own variation on it.
Bargello is a beautiful technique that uses “slices” of strips of paper that are reassembled on a project. It is a centuries-old technique in needlepoint. But reducing it further, it starts with the strips of different colors. In fact Teri-Lynn Masters published an article here using a Bargello strips-style background for a great page topper.

Reducing it even further, I just went with the strips aspect of the project and created an interesting background effect. I also decided it would be fun to find out what I could make without any patterned paper, or colored cardstock – only white cardstock.
Supplies Needed
Directions
1. Cut a piece of cardstock to 4” x 5”. Randomly stamp images on this piece. If you need a refresher course in random stamping, visit this article: http://www.pagesoftheheart.net/artman/publish/article_817.shtml
2. If desired, add the look of a little texture on your piece by adding some splattering. First, either press your stamping ink cover into the pad, if it is flexible, or press your pad onto a piece of acetate or plastic like a small plastic sandwich bag or office supply-style page protector. With a wet brush, draw up some of the ink from the cover or plastic. Holding the brush in your left hand, parallel to your work service, tap on it with your right hand to shake some of the watered-down ink onto the cardstock.
3. While the ink/water is drying, use your ink pad(s) with the direct-to-paper technique and apply ink to the edges of the card base.
4. Cut the randomly stamped piece into strips and adhere to the card base, randomly making the top/bottom edges uneven, refer to the photo above
5. Stamp a focal point and/or sentiment for the card and adhere it to the strips
6. Embellish as desired; I added a piece of organdy ribbon for an extra soft touch.
