CD’s are everywhere these days.. in our stereos, mailboxes, computers, mailboxes, cars, mailboxes, you get the idea. I’ve known some who use the surplus CD’s as mini Frisbees, drink coasters, devices to scare crows away from gardens and fruit trees, even some people who hang them from their rear view mirrors. I’m not sure what the purpose of that is, or who it is supposed to ward off. I digress. I’ve found a way to make my junk mail CD’s into a fun little project involving my scrapping supplies and an office supply or two. This was a fun and easy project and is limited only by your imagination.

Step One:
Decide how many pages you’d like your book to have and trace a CD onto cardstock to reflect this. Cut cardstock pages out and stack together.

Step Two:
Cover your CD’s with paper of your choice. I used a Xyron to run my paper through and then adhered it to my CD. After the paper was adhered, I trimmed around the CD. Once both sides of front CD and back CD are covered, sandwich the cardstock pages in between the two covers and secure with a rubber band. Once secured, take your dremel or drill and drill a hole in the top center of your CD book. Once hole is in place, take your loose leaf ring and put through hole, then remove rubber band.

Step Three:
Have fun!! The rest is up to you! Adhere photos, ribbons, stickers, rub ons, etc… embellish, journal, scrap or stamp to your heart’s content! The great thing about these mini books is that you can create one for any theme you like and with the ring it acts as a handy attachment device so the book can be hung on a decorative hook in the home, strung on a package as a gift tag book, etc. You could even put magnets on the back and have it adhere to the fridge of a proud grandparent! Enjoy turning your CD trash into treasure and be sure to share your treasures here in the Pages of the Heart Gallery!
