INSTRUCTIONS:
When creating a monochromatic layout, it’s important to first choose photographs and colors that coordinate well together. Here I have chosen a red color scheme to highlight Valentine’s Day photos that have plenty of red in them. This layout idea can be applied to any set of pictures you have simply by choosing different colors that will work best with your photographs. How-to instructions for this layout are below:
1. Begin with a 12”x12” sheet of patterned paper. This sheet is mainly solid, but features a faux textured border along one edge, which I have positioned at the bottom of the page.
2. Crop photos and mat each one with red cardstock. Tear some edges of the mats if you choose.
3. Cut a piece of red cardstock the size of the quote overlay. When cutting the quote overlay from the sheet, cut it the same width as the red cardstock, but about 1” taller.
4. Punch five hearts from darker red cardstock.
5. Attach the hearts with a glue pen to the red cardstock so that they will be behind the empty space on the quote overlay.
6. Wrap the overlay around the top and bottom of the cardstock, attaching with photo tabs in the back.
7. Using a needle and red embroidery floss, stitch an “x” in each corner of the overlay. It is easiest if you punch the holes first and then do the actual stitching.
8. Arrange and attach the photo and quote block to the top 2/3 of the layout.
9. Print journaling on a transparency. I chose to change the font size and style on select words.
10. Heat emboss with clear embossing powder.
11. Attach the journaling to the border area of the layout by stitching an “x” in each corner with red embroidery floss.
12. For a final three-dimensional touch, attach (with Glue Dots) a strip of red twill across the top of the journaling block.
