Enlarge a really great photo and use that as the focal point of the layout you are making. Use patterned paper or simple, colored cardstock for your layout. Find a font that conveys the emotion you want your layout to have and type your journaling. Use your computer to create a title to the layout. Change the color of the journaling and title. Print out your title and journaling onto transparency. Make sure you follow the instructions that come with the transparency paper as to which side to print on (the ink will smear if you print on the wrong side). Use adhesive dots to adhere the transparency to the paper. Embellish your layout as desired.
