One sheet yellow cardstock
One sheet orange cardstock
One sheet green cardstock
One sheet white cardstock or corrugated paper
Circle and oval cutters, or templates (I used Coluzzle templates)
Black pen
Instructions:
1. Create three orange squares that measure 3" x 3". I used the square Coluzzle template.
2. Create three green squares that measure 2.5" x 2.5". Again, I used the square Coluzzle
template.
3. Center and adhere one green square on top of one orange square. Repeat to create a total
of three matted squares.
4. With the yellow cardstock, cut three circles that are about 1.25" in diameter. To create
my circles, I used the Coluzzle shadow sun template. You can use anything that will give you a
circle of this size.
5. Using the orange cardstock, cut two "beaks" by cutting a triangle that is 1/2" on all
sides. Also cut two chick legs as shown in the image above.
6. With the white cardstock or corrugated paper, cut two ovals that are no bigger than 2.5"
from top to bottom and no bigger than 1.5" from side to side. Find the middle of each oval
and cut an irregular zig-zag line across the oval. This gives the illusion of a cracked egg.
7. Take the first matted square and adhere one of the yellow circles in the center of it. Then
take one of the white eggs and adhere it over the yellow circle, but leave a slight gap near
the zig-zag cut so that you can see a small amount of the yellow "chick".
8. Now take the second matted square and again, adhere one of the yellow circles in the
center of it. Near the center of the yellow circle, glue one of the "beaks". Then using
the black pen, carefully add two dots to create the eyes of the chick. Take the second
white egg, discard the top (you won't need this) and glue just the bottom half of the
white egg over half of the yellow circle.
9. With the last matted square, adhere the last yellow circle in the center. Add a beak and
eyes as you did in the second square. Add the legs and your squares are complete.
