So Simple ColorblockingBy Brandie ValenzuelaPages of the Heart Design Team Member ![]() Colorblocking is a popular technique that just like its name implies, revolves around blocks of color. Scrapbookers everywhere are enjoying the clean look of colorblocking, and have been buying up templates, idea books and more. Often times I hear color blocking being referred to as “simple”. While I have learned how to use the popular color blocking templates that have hit the scrapbook market, I still don’t consider color blocking to be all that simple. The more blocks you have, the more you have to align perfectly and it’s often frustrating trying to get straight cuts. However, whether you are a beginner to color blocking or old pro, I have put together one of the most simple ways to achieve the color blocking look in your layouts. 12” x 12” So Simple Colorblocked Layout Supplies: One photo (enlargements work great in this layout) One sheet 12” x 12” solid colored cardstock (for background) One sheet 12” x 12” pattern paper that coordinates with your cardstock choice Coordinating pattern paper or cardstock for matting your photo Adhesive Paper Trimmer Note: I am offering the most simple of instructions. If you wish to use two different pattern papers, or even four different patterns, go for it! You may also use a coordinating cardstock, rather than pattern paper -- the choice is yours! Directions: 1. Take your pattern paper and cut four squares that measure exactly 5 ¾” x 5 ¾”. 2. Mat your photo with your coordinating pattern paper or cardstock. With this layout, I prefer a double or triple matting. 3. Using your favorite adhesive, adhere the squares on the background paper. Each square should be evenly spaced from each other and each edge of the background paper. 4. Journal as you wish. ***Do you scrapbook in 8.5” x 11” size? No problem, follow the directions above, but simply make four rectangles of 5 ¼” x 4”, rather than the squares.
